Basketball tournament in Sofia (Bulgaria)

Dia-sport association was established in 1995 in Sofia, Bulgaria as a widely represented non-governmental organization with main activity areas: Sport and rehabilitation activities; Vocational training and adult education; Social integration of disadvantaged groups; Civil society; Youth. The Association’s mission is to increase the quality of education and training at all levels and in all its forms as well as to foster integration of any social group regardless of gender, age and ethnic origin. Dia-sport Association has over 25 years of experience in the field of consultancy and education on national and trans-national level, organisation of sport events, trainings and seminars, pilot studies.

   In the middle of June 2019 the Bulgarian project partner Dia-sport association successfully conducted several multicultural sports events, namely basketball, beach volleyball, football, table tennis tournaments. The sports events ended with Networking Sports Café. In the organization of the sports tournaments Dia-sport association was supported by “Scorpi sport – sports club” and “Sports Sofia – 2000”. A high number of athletes took part in the sports tournaments during this sunny summer day. In the basketball tournament, as well as in the beach volleyball together with the Bulgarian athletes participated migrants from Congo, Egypt, Syria, Palestine, Turkey, Romania, Sweden, Greece, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Cameroon. The day started with a friendly greeting on behalf of the Bulgarian project partner, followed by getting to know each other and play with a lot of good mood and fun. During the Sports Café while taking a rest tasting sandwiches, fruits, soft drinks, the participants in the multicultural sports events shared impressions and experience from their stay in Bulgaria. They also put an accent on the role of the sports activities for easier Bulgarian language learning and knowing the host country habits and traditions, the friendly atmosphere in the groups. Of course almost all YIB have had difficulties at the beginning of their arrival to a new unknown country. And again it was the inclusion in sport activities that helped a lot to overcome the stress and the problems which arose.
